At the moment I am listening to an old reissue of a 1954 recording of Benny Goodman, B G in Hifi.

The cover says it was recorded in November 1954 using a single condenser microphone "plus a little extra rhythm boost", presumably meaning another microphone or so at the back.

The quality is superb. Although obviously in mono, it just hangs there between the speakers.

If only some modern recordings, made with a truckload of gear, could sound half as fresh.

Of course all the signals will have been processed through valves at that time.

Sometimes I think we have learned very little in 50 years.

Soundtrack to the film Dawn of the Dead/Zombi by Italian Prog group Goblin. Good stuff.

First heard this when I was browsing round Rough Trade in London and they were playing this. On vinyl.

Hi Haim,

I am, very much, and I will be getting more of her recordings.

Don't know if you follow the "Pianist are getting better....." thread, but when I first got the download I did not like the chorales interspersed with the preludes and fugues. Dan suggested I try the p&f on their own. The chorales are fine, but they interrupted, for me, the flow of the preludes and fugues. As it was in my iTunes, I created a cd-r with just the preludes and fugues as she ordered them, but removed the chorales. I hope I haven't changed her "vision" but I now have a much more listenable disc for myself.

Nice having an extra listening day, today. Hope you have enjoyed yours.

regards
Jeff A

...make the Sex Pistols sound like Paper Lace. Well that's what Tony Parsons said back in 1978 and I've been watching and listening since then

I like this album but it is not a Nick Cave solo album. It is soundtrack music to films and mostly atmospheric instrumental. A lot of reviews here

Another weekend vinyl purchase. What a great LP this is, I haven't listened to it for quite some time.
