This is the album I've been enjoying for years. Highly recommended.

On Spotify:-

My feelings? An answer to a question not asked. Like another covers album much discussed here, why? It does not really bring anything new to the party although this album does have the benefit of being up and really rawks.
I have no aversion to covers , like the odd track on an album, SRV Little Wing etc.

Whole albums of cover s should be left to x factor type artists who don't have the talent for more than an attempt at copying.

Could of done without a semi rap version of Back in Black. Frown
Summary, Santana good but sounds like a sampler. IMO of course. Smile

Kicking back, a large G & T some rays and good music.
Doesn't get much better than this.

The very lovely Kate Walsh - you won't have heard The Cure's "Lullaby" like this before!

What a difference between the two Gould recordings of the variations. Do you have the 1981 version?

Haim

Haim, the 1981 version is played more slowly and observes (I think) all repeats, so it's a much longer CD than the 1955 recording. Youthful exuberance vs a more mature ruminative approach. Both are good, as long as you don't dislike Gould on principle. This is a really nice buy:

Both recordings of the Goldbergs plus a third CD containing a highly entertaining radio interview with the mischievous Gould.

Jacobs' Don Giovanni - it's good but hate to say it comes up slightly short when judged against the high standards set by the other recordings in this series. Main offenders are the fortepianist who tends to turn his contribution into a full blown recital, and a Don Giovanni who lacks charisma and a distinctive voice.

I've been away for a few days and caught up on quite a few articles in the last few Uncut mags, one of which was about the last few years of Sandy Denny. A sad story really. Not without her demons and quite reckless at times, but without doubt a wonderful singer. Who knows what the future may have held, we'll never know of course. So it's on with this tonight..
