Both recordings of the Goldbergs plus a third CD containing a highly entertaining radio interview with the mischievous Gould.

Nigel,

In a one word description I would say that Gould played the variations in 1955 like an explorer and in 1981 like a philosopher.

For some reasons I listen much more to his Bach Clavier Books, piano concertos and Inventions than the Goldberg Variations.

Regards,

Haim

Have to agree with that - one of my faves of recent years. Went to see the band play this live and it was one of those "great and special" concerts. An audience of no more than 100 were mesmerised by the superb musicianship.
