Having a Hi-Res session:
Herbie Hancock: River (The Joni Letters)
John Coltrane: A Love Supreme
Kent Poon: Audiophile Jazz Prologue III
All of these are 24-Bit/96kHz playing from laptop with M2Tech Hiface into Naim DAC/Naim XPS.
The Herbie Hancock album sounds really good but the Red Book CD is also excellent. 'A Love Supreme' sounds good on any equipment. It's just one of those recordings that draws you in. Having said that, the HiRes Studio Master is a real improvement over the Red Book 2CD 'Deluxe' issue on Impulse. Elvin Jones' cymbals are much better articulated, as is Coltrane's tenor saxophone. The Kent Poon album seems to be flavour of the month for audiophiles at present, although it has a very dry sound with very little equalisation. To my ears, this is one of the audiophile albums that is well recorded but the album itself is poor. The ensemble hired for the project sound rather like a second rate lounge jazz band playing to an indifferent audience in a wine bar.
I'll stick with Herbie Hancock and John Coltrane

An interesting CD of works for two violins (most of them with piano) by Martinu, Milhaud, Shostakovich and the South Korean composer Isang Yun. Warmly recommended, based on what I've heard so far, and just £2.99 from Harmonia Mundi on Amazon.
