Continuing the journey. Here is the child prodigy Tony Williams on drums at the tender age of 17. The music fizzes with invention partly because the group had only been formed for a few weeks. This has one of the fastest versions of Milestones available.
Miles Davis (Trompette)
Herbie Hancock (Piano)
Ron Carter (Contrebasse)
George Coleman (Saxophone ténor)
Tony Williams (Batterie)

Bleu - Four (listening to all 10 tracks here)
'Evil Twin' is sounding nice and menacing - looking forward to the CD.
This guy has exceptional songwriting talent, a great voice & (jellyfish) friends.

.... Here we have the first recording of the second "great" quintet, with Wayne Shorter replacing Coleman and adding considerable compositional talent to the line up. September 25th 1964. Miles would play at the Berlin jazz festival a total 7 times between 1964 and 1985.

It's a good pressing apart from a light pop, pop, pop to start with. I only bought it for the cover

Are you going for the new Steven Wilson produced sets??
I have all the 30th Anniversary editions. I felt the new 40th edition was cashing in too quickly but having seen them today I am tempted. I will probably get them but am going to start with Red and see how it goes.

Here the band members contribute six of the seven songs..ending in the beautiful Mood by Ron Carter.

Disc 2 - the forging song takes some time to get going, but when Siegfried starts hammering away and ultimately uses the mended Nothung to split the anvil, there is the proper intensity (although Haitink is unbeatable here). Jess Thomas and Karajan's attention to instrumental detail remain a pleasure to listen to.

Its been a bit up and down for me with Karajan but he nails this Brahms symphony.

Not the complete Plugged Nickel, but still representative of the "Rosetta Stone" of jazz as Brian Morton has ascribed this set. Unaccountably Herbie Hancock's piano is badly miked for some of this set, playing second fiddle (as it were) to Williams' incessant and mesmerising ride cymbal.

You want to send that back there should be some music on it at least.
