Still on Arturo...
Can't seem to put it down.

Marred only by a flimsy outer package, this box set is nonetheless exceptional value, comprising 16 albums recorded between 1955 and 1961 on Riverside.

For all you Pop/Psychedelic/Shoegaze fans...
Keith Canisius - This Time It's Our High (samples @ Darla or full @ myspace)
Review
The 3rd full length release by the Cambridge, MA born Dane Keith Canisius flirts with multiple genres simultaneously -- Chill Wave, Shoegaze, Dreampop and Psychedelia and goes beyond these genre specifics.
Keith's earlier albums (Rumskib, Ferris Wheel Make out, Waves) have a strong Shoegaze and Dreampop approach with the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine aesthetics right upfront. On This Time It's Our High he moves closer to his own thing; making the album harder to define genre-wise as he blends so many elements together with elegance and without compromise. The result is a surreal, mood elevating sound combined with a fine pop sensibility that makes it easy to understand.
You could say that artists like Animal Collective, Ariel Pink, Deerhunter & Panda Bear influenced some production elements on this album but at the same time it does not sound like those artists. It sounds like Keith Canisius.

Which version are you listening to? I hope I haven't missed an official release of the original 'Smile'
There are many unauthorised releases (Hence my question) of the fragments of 'Smile' that were completed or partially completed. Although opinions seems to vary, I doubt that there was ever a finished mix of 'Smile', Brain Wilson having shelved the project as his personal health deteriorated. Back in the 1970s I met Terry Melcher. We discussed the 'Smile' project and Terry claimed that he was invited to a dinner party at Brian Wilson's house at which a set of headphones was included with each place setting at the table. Terry told me that Brian Wilson played his guests a finished version of the 'Smile' album. I think that Terry's memory may not be quite accurate but it was an interesting anecdote. Carl Wilson is also claimed to have prepared a final mix of 'Smile' during the sessions for 'Smiley Smile' although nothing has surfaced.
Maybe you were listening to Brian Wilson's latter day recording of 'Smile'. While I like this recording, it pales when compared to the tracks that were originally recorded for the album back in the 1960s.
File this under lost masterpiece. I believe that if Brian Wilson had completed the project, it would rate as one of the greatest albums of contemporary music ever released.
