Snorkelling kits
Posted by: Diccus62 on 08 December 2010
Hi folks. I'm after cheapish snorkelling kits for the kids for holidays next year. We have a budget of around £30 for face mask, snorkel and flippers. Any ideas for reputable companies as the choice seems bewildering
Many thanks in anticipation

If Nic's offer doesn't work out, as someone who used to do subaqua (albeit some years ago now) this Beuchat set illustrates the sort of features you need to look for, especially in a 'starter' set:
Mask with a good seal, separate nose. Snorkel not too long, with a gentle curve for easy purging of water. Fins robust with plenty of adjustment (at their ages adjustable straps are definitely more flexible than full foot types). And all in a visible colour.
With a quick Google I found this set at a specialist shop, which also adds confidence. Budget £25. (No hot links allowed on here, so right click on the image and Properties will give you the details...)

AND they'll think they're Jacques Cousteau in kit that cool-looking

As a scuba diver and snorkeler, I found the best kit to come from Scubapro, but they are not cheap. At the budget end of things Tusa & Mares are two very reputable brands that make excellent kit.
As for adjustable fins with straps, they have to be worn with booties and that will have to be factored in with the cost. I'd personally choose full foot fins as they are cheaper and lighter.

Flame, I agree about full foot fins, but these are for kids with their rapidly growing feet!

A kind friend brought me a couple of pairs of kids fins on Friday, now where did I put hem?

I suspect the manager of The Bridge will be utterly mystified wondering why anyone would come out on a freezing night in Newcastle with two pairs of fins. Mind you there are a few strange sights around town on a Friday and Saturday night!
Great to meet up with the other Jolly Boys, including fellow forum member Jet. Must continue the music discussion at some stage.

For really good price and quality, scubamax gear is worth considering. Consistently excellent service and pricing from scubaonly.
