Volume control for n-serve app
Posted by: scotman1973 on 13 January 2011
Wondering if there is, or maybe will be a volume control in the n-serve app (similar in nature to the apple remote volume control?)
.....still waiting on my nDAc and unitiserve to arrive (today hopefully).
Downloaded the app already....just asking until I can actually use it.

Yes there is, although in my experience, it's not very responsive. Hard to move the indicator, then all of a sudden it overreacts.

There isn't any volume control on the n-serve app.

Whoops, sorry, you're right, I was thinking of the N-Stream app...

One of the many small irritations on Naim's "beta" n-stream app. The volume control is a great idea but implementation is a bit rough - it needs plus or minus control but alas it looks like the sticky slider will make it through the next big update.

This is often a function of both slow Wi-Fi and dry fingertips! Fix both and you're all set.
Of course, it's human nature that people would have complained had Naim used + / - buttons.

I'm having my fingers fixed later this afternoon.
"Naim to use +/- ....over my dead body!"
Welcome back David - how was CES?

There'll not be a volume control in the n-Serve app as there is no volume controlled output on the HDX / NS0x / UnitiServe.
Cheers

That is a bummer. I do like using the volume inside JMRC or Foobar from my iPhone apps. Very handy.

So then, and forgive my ignorance, how can volume be controlled through the apple remote app? Couldn't something similar be done with the n-serve app?
Again, i know little about this field....

Before Airplay you could use remote to control itunes volume levels but doing that affected SQ. Even with airplay you are better served by using the Naim remote. I always leave Remote 2 volume alone and set itunes volume to max.

I think volume control in the digital domain is messing with the bits and therefore with the sound quality.
Best leave volume control in the analogue domain.

Agreed. Most of the time my player's volume is @ 100%. But when you need to turn it down for a moment, it is handy to have it in the app. Especially if you are in another room than the kit, e.g. while cooking, showering, f*$#ing etc...
With the 64 bit blah blah blah and whatnot I think MC it is safe. Foobar's internal has been tested as bit perfect i believe.

Understood, great for convenience - but when you are spending thousands on hifi - useful to know when not to mess with the volume.
