NFL - American Football 2010

Well that one died, but as the pre season has started, then I thought it time to wind it up again (even though it is still the cricket season - football/soccer please take note).

Well the annual soap opera that is Bret Favre is underway, but I think we are all very bored by it now. Many people think that if the playoff loss last year was his last game it would not represent his career, but I thought it did to a great extent, he was a gambler, and he often gambled too much.

Jimmy Jones is taking pot shots at McNabb as Redskins QB, I am with him as usual on that.

The Eagles still have my most hated player, so it is definitely the Cowboys and Giants for me in that division.

The Jets are on a reality show in the US, has anyone seen it? Apparently, from reports, there we a few are a few words like 'the' 'and' 'if' and 'now' which are not bleeped out from Rex Ryan's speeches. Darrelle Revis and The Jets are talking without the media posturing, I can't see him not being there.

Looks like the days of the NFL preview magazines have been superseded by the internet, unless anyone knows where to buy one these days.

I'll have ago at some pick in a week or two, I will say that without a doubt that the two Western Divisions will again be the weakest in each conference.

New Orleans will still be good, I think the Falcons too. Dallas I like the look of, and then there are a few solid teams Green Bay, probably Minnestota, Arizona, The Giants.

I think the best of the AFC have fallen back into the pack, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, New England, Baltimore, all look to be getting a bit long in the tooth at key positions, but have good coaches. Will Jim Caldwell actually have an expression on his face at some point this season?

The Chargers will win the West, and they are good, but I just find them like The Eagles of the last few years, do not quite have it to get through to the big game. I will try and not be so nasty about the AFC West teams this year, especially as Denver will be looking up at the division leaders from week 1.

Really looking forward to seeing if Tim Tebow can cut it in the NFL, obviously I hope so, and he could be very entertaining. As for the coach, I really do not see him pulling the team together and making anything of them.

I do think that in Jason Campbell The Raiders do finally have a good QB, and it is probably a good home for him after being kicked around at the Redskins for the last few years. They might well be a much better team.

Obviously there will be teams who surprise us by rising to the top, teams who disappoint, injuries, arguments.

I also wonder what we will see here in the UK. I am sure Channel 5 have ditched all sports, so Sky will probably have all the Sunday night games, and ESPN have picked up the Monday night games. I really hope that Mike Carlson will be with us this year, but if ESPN show the games in the way NASN did (US feed, lots of UK adverts in the US ad slots, and no studio coverage) then it is unlikely that he will find a home there. If they did have him, I would buy a subscription, if not, it is unlikely.

Anyway, just a few weeks and we will be in it all.

Before anyone asks, Vick may have given (by all accounts I have heard) one of the greatest performances by a quarterback of all time, and is in the running for MVP of the league, and top candidate for the 'Great American redemption story', but just to let you know I STILL HATE HIM.

No change happening there.

I still think Favre is a selfish drama queen too.

I'll stick to liking the Patriots and Dallas, as well as my Broncos, despite the fact everyone seems to loathe those teams.

I must say I am impressed with The Raiders, I though Jason Campbell would be a good fit there (eventually), and I am enjoying seeing a few teams who have been losers for years starting to have some good games, and a little good luck. Rams, Bucs, Lions, Chiefs, if only The Bills could grab a bit of that too.

Vick's performance this season is nothing short of stunning, MVP so far. Still can't stand him.

Judging by Thursday's game unless The Dolphins find a quarterback from somewhere, their season is pretty much over. No matter how good the defense is.

It's pretty much over unless they find a miracle QB asap. Frown

Look on the bright side, at least you didn't start the season with Josh McDaniels as coach, and so guarantee no playoff spot from the start.

The games over Thanksgiving were quite entertaining but today is the epic battle:
Auburn vs Bama

... and an epic battle it was.

So do you like your Vikings with or without 'Chilli', and how Favre can they go?

This season is making a stain on Favre's career, not just for stats but showing he is a selfish player who is more interested in the records and numbers he can set rather than how much he helps a team. Leslie Frazier should bench him and look to the future.

That should have happened about 4 years ago when he went to NY Jets IMO.

At least my Browns are much improved this year although their results don't quite reflect that. I only hope that Mike Holmgren doesn't decide to add head coaching duties to his role as President. I think that Eric Mangini is on the right track and deserves another season at least.

On the college scene, I hope my Buckeyes get a BCS "at large" Bowl place!

I'm guessing Wisconsin will smell the roses.

Oh, and BTW, UM needs a new head coach. Randy is a nice guy but not what we need to get back on track.

Yep, Wisconsin will be in the Rose Bowl but Ohio State will potentially get an invite to the Sugar or Orange Bowls as part of the "at-large" pool.

Cheers

I am in total agreement with you Jim.

He always was a gambler, good enough to win the one Superbowl he did, but too risky ever to repeat it. He does deserve the Hall of Fame as he was very exciting to watch.

He just became too much of a soap opera in the last few years, and once that basket ball player LeBronn stole the drama queen sportsman role from him, he was even boring at that.

Fun season this year, and bot do The Browns have a solid coaching staff, of ex Belichik staff, and a great mind in the office. I expect quite a lot soon.

Could you spare any of your good coaches for Denver next year?

McDaniel was considered for the Browns as was Scott Pioli for the GM role so thankfully we escaped both of them going to Cleveland.

Jim Caldwell when the Colts score a touchdown.
Jim Caldwell when the Colts lose a turnover.
Jim Caldwell when the Colts win their division.
Jim Caldwell when the Colts are eliminated from the playoffs.

Any wonder I have given up on caring about The Colts.

On the college front we have a great match up with Oregon and Auburn in the NC game. Smile

On my way to NY, so I will be able to see Sunday and Monday night football at a civilized time.

Ravens and Steelers game was a tough battle, hope tonight's Jets / Pats game can live up to it.

So the great prima donna bows out 297 consecutive starts, and missing the point that a start is being the person best able to help the team win that game, and not just some personal statistic to out in the record books.

At his best he was fantastic to watch, and at his worst a pain. He would have been better remembered if he had bowed out with some grace rather than the joke of this last year. Still he will become a worthy member of the Hall of Fame, and hopefully in in Green Bay uniform.

Great shots of the roof in Minneapolis pouring the snow through on the football this weekend, and some great games too, even if Philadelphia won one of them.

Not particularly looking forward to the 'Red Zone' cover age of the early games next weekend, especially when there are three great looking games in the early slot, Jacksonville @ Indianapolis, Philadelphia @ Giants and New Orleans : Baltimore, still I will give it a try.

Redzone on Sky sports. It is absolute S**T. If I wanted to randomly channel flick and not follow anything at all, I just just do it with the remote myself.

A long time ince I didn't watch football on a Sunday, but I would rather just follow nfl.com.

It is utterly pathetic. The worst football coverage I have ever seen. Unwatchable excrement. They must assume we have the attention span of a gnat!

You should see that abuse being posted on the NFLUK forum, and not only by me.

Apparently Facebook fans are equally appalled. Quite often I want to follow another game's scores, so I flick on nfl.com on the computer.

Apparently this Redzone junk is shown in the US without ad breaks, so evidently advertisers will not touch it.

If they say they are going to continue with it next week, then I will phone as well as the emails I have sent to Sky to complain, as we the viewers are paying with our subscriptions. I might ask if the subscription can be suspended until they stop this junk, hollow threat as there is the Ashes at the moment. Still it might make a point.

I'm watching my games in the US this weekend so miss all the fuss on Sky. Sounded like a bad idea when they announced it, maybe they think it will attract a none traditional football viewing audience?
Posted on: 19 December 2010 by JamieL_v2
Apparently it is the Redzone programme as shown in the US, but I presume most fans there do not bother with it.

Never seen it in the US, never even heard about it.
