Well that one died, but as the pre season has started, then I thought it time to wind it up again (even though it is still the cricket season - football/soccer please take note).
Well the annual soap opera that is Bret Favre is underway, but I think we are all very bored by it now. Many people think that if the playoff loss last year was his last game it would not represent his career, but I thought it did to a great extent, he was a gambler, and he often gambled too much.
Jimmy Jones is taking pot shots at McNabb as Redskins QB, I am with him as usual on that.
The Eagles still have my most hated player, so it is definitely the Cowboys and Giants for me in that division.
The Jets are on a reality show in the US, has anyone seen it? Apparently, from reports, there we a few are a few words like 'the' 'and' 'if' and 'now' which are not bleeped out from Rex Ryan's speeches. Darrelle Revis and The Jets are talking without the media posturing, I can't see him not being there.
Looks like the days of the NFL preview magazines have been superseded by the internet, unless anyone knows where to buy one these days.
I'll have ago at some pick in a week or two, I will say that without a doubt that the two Western Divisions will again be the weakest in each conference.
New Orleans will still be good, I think the Falcons too. Dallas I like the look of, and then there are a few solid teams Green Bay, probably Minnestota, Arizona, The Giants.
I think the best of the AFC have fallen back into the pack, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, New England, Baltimore, all look to be getting a bit long in the tooth at key positions, but have good coaches. Will Jim Caldwell actually have an expression on his face at some point this season?
The Chargers will win the West, and they are good, but I just find them like The Eagles of the last few years, do not quite have it to get through to the big game. I will try and not be so nasty about the AFC West teams this year, especially as Denver will be looking up at the division leaders from week 1.
Really looking forward to seeing if Tim Tebow can cut it in the NFL, obviously I hope so, and he could be very entertaining. As for the coach, I really do not see him pulling the team together and making anything of them.
I do think that in Jason Campbell The Raiders do finally have a good QB, and it is probably a good home for him after being kicked around at the Redskins for the last few years. They might well be a much better team.
Obviously there will be teams who surprise us by rising to the top, teams who disappoint, injuries, arguments.
I also wonder what we will see here in the UK. I am sure Channel 5 have ditched all sports, so Sky will probably have all the Sunday night games, and ESPN have picked up the Monday night games. I really hope that Mike Carlson will be with us this year, but if ESPN show the games in the way NASN did (US feed, lots of UK adverts in the US ad slots, and no studio coverage) then it is unlikely that he will find a home there. If they did have him, I would buy a subscription, if not, it is unlikely.
Anyway, just a few weeks and we will be in it all.
