NFL - American Football 2010

Well that one died, but as the pre season has started, then I thought it time to wind it up again (even though it is still the cricket season - football/soccer please take note).

Well the annual soap opera that is Bret Favre is underway, but I think we are all very bored by it now. Many people think that if the playoff loss last year was his last game it would not represent his career, but I thought it did to a great extent, he was a gambler, and he often gambled too much.

Jimmy Jones is taking pot shots at McNabb as Redskins QB, I am with him as usual on that.

The Eagles still have my most hated player, so it is definitely the Cowboys and Giants for me in that division.

The Jets are on a reality show in the US, has anyone seen it? Apparently, from reports, there we a few are a few words like 'the' 'and' 'if' and 'now' which are not bleeped out from Rex Ryan's speeches. Darrelle Revis and The Jets are talking without the media posturing, I can't see him not being there.

Looks like the days of the NFL preview magazines have been superseded by the internet, unless anyone knows where to buy one these days.

I'll have ago at some pick in a week or two, I will say that without a doubt that the two Western Divisions will again be the weakest in each conference.

New Orleans will still be good, I think the Falcons too. Dallas I like the look of, and then there are a few solid teams Green Bay, probably Minnestota, Arizona, The Giants.

I think the best of the AFC have fallen back into the pack, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, New England, Baltimore, all look to be getting a bit long in the tooth at key positions, but have good coaches. Will Jim Caldwell actually have an expression on his face at some point this season?

The Chargers will win the West, and they are good, but I just find them like The Eagles of the last few years, do not quite have it to get through to the big game. I will try and not be so nasty about the AFC West teams this year, especially as Denver will be looking up at the division leaders from week 1.

Really looking forward to seeing if Tim Tebow can cut it in the NFL, obviously I hope so, and he could be very entertaining. As for the coach, I really do not see him pulling the team together and making anything of them.

I do think that in Jason Campbell The Raiders do finally have a good QB, and it is probably a good home for him after being kicked around at the Redskins for the last few years. They might well be a much better team.

Obviously there will be teams who surprise us by rising to the top, teams who disappoint, injuries, arguments.

I also wonder what we will see here in the UK. I am sure Channel 5 have ditched all sports, so Sky will probably have all the Sunday night games, and ESPN have picked up the Monday night games. I really hope that Mike Carlson will be with us this year, but if ESPN show the games in the way NASN did (US feed, lots of UK adverts in the US ad slots, and no studio coverage) then it is unlikely that he will find a home there. If they did have him, I would buy a subscription, if not, it is unlikely.

Anyway, just a few weeks and we will be in it all.

warming up for the games ... pass the beer & the chips

So the Steelers retired in Steeleretts in '70 and replaced them a few years later with oversized yellow hankies. What's all that about?   ;-)

I'm with you Jeff, Go Pack!

Rogers is going to win more Superbowls than Favre, thats my pick.

Going for all four basic food groups during the games tonight, Alcohol, Salt, Starch and Fat.

EDIT. One half done, so far so really good.

EDIT 2. I want to learn to dance like B. J. Ragi. Damn good game, good Packers win.

If the Jets win we could have two number 6 seeds in the Superbowl. A big if though.

So it's the Steelers against the Packers, lots of tradition on the line. I'm rooting for the Dolphins ... oh sorry, we didn't make it again ... well then, let me pick the Packers, quite impressed with Rogers.

It should be a great game. I like Green Bay's chances.

Me too. The classic 60's team verses the classic 70's team.

I wonder what Cutler and the coaches conversation was like on the Chicago sideline at the start of the second half.

Coach 'Jay, how much do you want to be a great starting quarteback in the Superbowl and follow in the footsteps of a star like Jim McMahon'

Cutler 'Ooh, my knee feels poorly'

Coach 'Just imagine throwing the winning pass in the new Cowboys stadium, and being seen a hundred feet high on the biggest TV in the world'

Cutler 'I want my mommy to rub my knee better'.

Well something like that according to many players around the league.

No Byron Leftwich old Jay.

QB became a college on this day after returning to play the after breaking his shin in the 1st quarter. The image of his carrying him downfield after a long pass will not soon be forgotten.

God I hate American sports journalists who just think the Superbowl is there for them to spend a week on a sunny beach somewhere.

Football is a winter game, and the final crowning point of each season should represent that, none of this namby pamby Florida, California stuff, have it in Green Bay, or somewhere outdoors in the North East. Lets see some hard playing in real weather.

Normally I really enjoy PTI, but on this subject Mike Wilbon can f*** off back to watching a bunch of thyroid cases fanny about scoring 10,000 point each, and waving their lame egos around on the Basket Ball court, and leave Football to those who love it.

There got that off my chest.

My heart is with the Packers, but those darn Steelers always seem to find a way to win...

I'll say 24-17 Pittsburgh

Very good prediction Claude, I am right with you, I really would like to see Aaron Rogers win a Superbowl and prove the Packers right in their QB decision a couple of years ago.

I do like the Steelers too though.

I might go even closer 21-24 either way. Might even even have another safety in there.

Must say I think it is a pity Fox are covering the Superbowl this year, their coverage, comentators and general ability to produce a television sports programme is greatly inferior to the other networks.

3 hours of Aikman and thingy being macho, and Siragussa sya 'yeah I used to do that' on the sideline.

Where is John Madden when you need him?

- also posted on the Fox news thread.

PS. It is very quiet around here these days.

27-24 Green Bay

...Green Bay by 7 ...I'm not saying anymore than that!

Let the game begin.

30 minutes to go, beers chilled, dips ready, and maybe a slice of cheese to eat, or maybe fashion some headwear out of.

Edit - Black Eyed Peas, halftime show, they were awful, just awful. I'm not a fan of rap, but have been really impressed by performances like Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Dizzee Rascall at Glastonbury the past few years, so judged against that this was plain bad.

The Who were far better last year, and that was slagged off.

Good game though.

The national anthem butchered, the half time show awful - but nothing could stop Rodgers.

Congrats Green Bay!
Posted on: 07 February 2011 by JamieL_v2
Just listened to the national Anthem and was more concerned with all the yowling she did rather than the actual words she got wrong.

Unlike the UK, the US has a great anthem, but I am pig sick of R&B singers singing all round the tune, and never actually singing the song itself.

Still, so much better than the Black Eyed Peas, that was simply the worst Superbowl halftime show I have ever seen. Perhaps next year they should just have 20 minutes of adverts, I couldn't be worse than yesterdays show.

Re: Over blown, high budget karoke half time show.  If I had had the ability to see into the future back in the 60's and had seen that performance as "culture circa 2011", I would have to promptly shoot myself.

Ps.  . . . . so glad I got to hear Slash play his one lick for the 10,000th time.
