Limited to just 96 kHz sample rate.

Yamaha have been in the game (streamed music) for a long time (Yamaha CAST IIRC).
24/96 is the same limit as Naim's current UPnP streamers (not HDX / UnitiServe).

LIMITED TOO?! If only everything I have on cd could be that way... Heck, cd sound can be terrific if implemented well.

No thanks Sound Quality is important and that's something Yamaha haven't really cracked - I have one of their CD recorders - it cuts great CDs, but as a player/transport it is terrible. It also wins my prize for the worst ever remote control.quote:Originally posted by Cryptonit:

What's so special about that Yamaha?

I know that Naim also use this limitation in their UPnP connections and I think they shouldn't. Current technology of music recording and also available releases have already passed that limit (DVD-A, BluRay, DSD downloads).

I know that the best music depends on the mastering applied and CD's are quite capable of showing terrific sound when mastered well. But there are already releases out there that are 192 kHz or recently the new DSD downloads. I feel these companies should keep up with the latest technology because, IMHO, if these new
technologies stick the devices you buy now are 'old' already.

That is the way with technology - the amount of music at 96+ is tiny

Now, enough is enough! We must react vigorously to this new invasion!
Paul, it is about time you make a decision: when will Naim finally enter the motorcycle market?

The amount of 192 music is growing and won't go away. It is silly not to offer future proofing.
Naim is confusing in its strategy with the NDX. For music input via SPDIF & USB it will accept 192 but for some silly reason they limit network delivered music to 96....Why!!!!!!
Linn DS boxes don't have any problem playing network delivered 192 files so it ain't a technical barrier. I guess its just Naim being silly. Shame really since I was hoping the NDX would be a truely competetive product to consider in the future.
regards
Geoff.

I would think it is software related and a fix is possible in the future.
Don't think it is a matter of silliness; I would guess that 192 + would be tricky over WiFi and would need a pretty decent router.
Perhaps Phil could help here?

192 kHz is peanuts over WiFi, this iis a bitrate of 5451 kb/s.
I stream 1080p videos over WiFi-n (available bandwidth 256 Mb/s) and they can have bitrates of eg. 18 Mb/s and more. All these play without stuttering or artifacts.
So 192 kHz is far from extreme over WiFi.

Aleg has said it:
I stream 192 files easily using WiFi. Anyway you can hardwire the NDX if you want.

It should be so amusing to see some here dismiss Yamaha out of hand, esp. when you haven't heard it yet.
I've just been over to the Linn DS forums where some owners are even more arrogant than you lot.
A user over there however usefully posted some streamer results from a German hifi mag.
They rated the new Yamaha streamer at least the equal of Linn's Sneaky DS, in fact they preferred the Japanese player.
And as a sanity check for hype-avoidance, they didn't think much of Marantz's new streamer.

Hype ....have you seen the NDX threads ..which is more than most of us can say about the NDX.
At least we don't need to worry about which version of Cara we are running or suffer the heirachical snobbery of the Celtic trinity, Majik, Akurate and Klimax .... Oh yes we do ...
