Forum Rugby Club - 2010-11 Season

Kicking off the new season's thread with some sad news.

Leicester Tigers' Harry Ellis is to retire at 28 because of persistent left knee problems.

On the bright side, Leicester does of course have Ben Youngs (and perhaps Harry could remain involved in a mentoring role).

But it's always unfortunate when a player (wherever) has to retire (early) because of unresolvable injury problems.

Just been on the saffies website and it seems that he is not going completely, he will remain as their technical director. Read into that what you will

Excellent and entertaining game of rugby at London (Reading) Irish vs Leicester. And really good to see the players chatting together afterwards.

Oh, and a nice win for LT... Smile

Lucky.

Lucky??!!! Red Face

Apart from some Exiles pressure in the first half of the second half, it was pretty straight forward.

The LT forwards mashed LI in all departments, line outs, scrummaging, awesome defence with only one real lapse, and in the loose.

LI looked out of their depth and at times desperate and out of ideas.

Very lucky then.

We'll see how lucky the pests are tomorrow then Big Grin

Better results record than Leicester - Still the Bonus Points thing letting us down

We've been lucky four times out of the last four now.

Wasps are not substantially better than Leicester, on results record, just one Draw.

The reason for Wasps predicament is their inability to score points or defend.

Points for (W)223 (LT)272
Points against (W)222 (LT)203
Tries for (W)19 (LT)29
Tries against (W)18 (LT)15

We all play be the same league table points rules. The bonus points are, IMO, a great way of rewarding high scoring winners and losers. LT have got more bonus points. W would get more bonus points if they performed better.

That's OK, your agreement that Wasps are better, even if not substantially better, will suffice...

We will see soon enough Big Grin

From a LT point of view, though, things are looking quite positive.

Yesterday was vs what was the 2nd team in the league, with yet again a far from full strength LT side. In the first weeks of the season, 2nd string was definitely 2nd string, but over the weeks they have really gelled and settled in, and are now turning in confident and polished performances.

It all reminds me of the last two Seasons when LT have, er, won the Premiership Final...

So, brace yerselves!

Yeah, yeah, we've all beaten them!

Hmmm. Not sure I've seen that. They definitely bossed it up front against Irish in the lineout and scrum. But the tries were a pushover and a penalty try. When Irish decided to play properly they ripped you to pieces with that try!

Oh bugger Red Face
Still Perpignan were the better side today and the Tigers fluffed some good runs, think Cockers needs to have a word in Murphys ear though and Allen while he is at it Roll Eyes i can`t understand why Murphy was not taken of and Hamilton moved to full back to bring on Manu

No remarks from me today. Tigers are an English team in Europe now, so not the enemy!

Did anyone see the bizarre post match interview with Brendan Venter just now?!!!
Posted on: 11 December 2010 by deadlifter
Where`s that and what did he say
Posted on: 11 December 2010 by Chillkram
It was on Sky after Sarries lost to Racing. Expect it to be on Youtube soon. It was one of the strangest post event sporting interviews I have ever heard. The man is clearly not in a good space. On that evidence Sarries should allow him to move on now for the sake of his own health. I'd be worried if I was his family watching that.

Here we go

Oop`s i think there will be a hospital trip at some point because he clearly was not wired up correctly, UNLESS it was a game of some kind bearing in mind his problems with being fined for expressing himself of late
Posted on: 11 December 2010 by Chillkram
Maybe, but it was a strange sort of protest, if that's what it was, which will only draw more negative attention to himself.

Either way, if I was Sarries' management I'd move him on quickly as it will not be good for the club's reputation to persist.

It will be interesting to read the Rugby paper tomorrow
I'm sure they will have something to say about it, anyway I'm off out on the ale now over Rugby TTFN
Posted on: 11 December 2010 by JWM
Sadly there are some serious signs there. Get him off the roundabout.

Allez, allez, allez, Wasps, Wasps, Wasps!
