Forum Rugby Club - 2010-11 Season

Kicking off the new season's thread with some sad news.

Leicester Tigers' Harry Ellis is to retire at 28 because of persistent left knee problems.

On the bright side, Leicester does of course have Ben Youngs (and perhaps Harry could remain involved in a mentoring role).

But it's always unfortunate when a player (wherever) has to retire (early) because of unresolvable injury problems.

I'm not sure that I've often seen a team with such utter possessional and positional dominance lose a game in that fashion.

Harlequins won this game with some phenomenal and dogged defence and brilliant execution of their very few opportunities.

79% territory and 75% possession in the second half and only 3 points!!!

Aw, cack! And it was going so well after Foden crossed within a minute of the start!

A beautiful drive westwards in low winter sun through the Rutland and Leicestershire countryside.

Harlequins 17 10 Wasps

Leicester Tigers 27 16 Northampton Saints - and a thoroughly entertaining nip n tuck game between two good sides.

A nice pint with Deadlifter afterwards - and nice to meet Mrs and dad.

Live recording on R3 on the way home.

A lovely hot curry waiting for me when I got home.

Altogether...

Ok....I'm prepared to stick my neck out and show my conviction that Tigers are going to be humiliated in February.

If Tigers beat Wasps at Welford Rd in February, I'll eat my lunch!

And yours!

No need for swearing there, Paul. Remember, to be polite replace the 'a' with an asterisk, thus:

P*yne.

I do apologise my lord, but I felt a rage come over me when I came across said persons name and felt a sudden urge to explode. Surely we are not that desperate for props that we have to dredge the bottom Confused

After a dismal first half from the Tigers who were out of sorts [maybe missing Geordan] we got our act together and finished 32-20 Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
Next week a bonus point against Treviso and hopefully the next round Winker although we need Scarlets to beat Perpignan

I have just finished reading last Sundays Rugby paper before collecting this Sundays copy [always takes a week to read because of distractions e.g the mrs and mostly Rose junior Winker] and Jeff Probyn [ex Wasps] was ranting quite rightly IMHO about the Wasps LV=cup game that has been moved to a 5000 seat stadium in Abu Dhabi when Adams park holds 10,000. The question [ possibly to be answered by Chilkram/Jamie wednesday ] is why and what do their supporters think about this especially if they are season ticket holders and therefore have already paid to see this game [ although Wasps have offered a refund as i understand it ]
