Forum Rugby Club - 2010-11 Season

Kicking off the new season's thread with some sad news.
Leicester Tigers' Harry Ellis is to retire at 28 because of persistent left knee problems.
On the bright side, Leicester does of course have Ben Youngs (and perhaps Harry could remain involved in a mentoring role).
But it's always unfortunate when a player (wherever) has to retire (early) because of unresolvable injury problems.

I think the point is that both teams were rubbish, only that Wasps were slightly more rubbish than Tigers and, crucially, Wasps' rubbishness was displayed in our own 22 on two pivotal occasions.
Tigers created very little themselves for all of their territory and possession.

Leicester, meanwhile, look well on track to defend their Premiership title after racking up their eighth consecutive win in the league to go 10 points clear at the summit.
First-half tries from fly-half Jeremy Staunton and lock Steve Mafi, plus 11 points from the boot of former Wasp Staunton, sealed the spoils, and the winning margin could have been far greater were it not for a phenomenal defensive effort by the visitors.
Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill was pleased to secure another win, although he was less than enamoured by the visitors' approach to the game.
"They came to kick the ball away and defend and they didn't really come to play," Cockerill said.
"We found it hard against a belligerent team who were pretty negative all round. They worked hard but you get four points for grit and determination and we got them.
"It was a bit frustrating, we probably didn't manage the tenacity at the breakdown as we would have liked but we deserved the win, we had the greater share of the game, although it wasn't a great spectacle, but the only thing that matters is the result."
England flanker Tom Croft made his return from injury for the Tigers, playing the final 23 minutes after almost three months out with a shoulder injury.
Cockerill is understandably delighted to have the 2009 Lions tourist back, and is hoping to have him available for the trip to Sale on Friday.
He said: "He was really good and we will look to get him some more time next week. He is world class and we don't know how long it will be before England come for him, but we will try and get as much out of him as we can."

Don't know if you watched the highlights on Sunday, but we definitely won.

I think you had drunk too much of that whisky and damson vodka!

Judging by that picture that i`m in it may be a possibility , but as for Wasps winning not a chance and not even the remotest possibility of a moral victor either

It'll be a long time before he can fill one of OUR jerseys...
Looking forward to this afternoon. But don't know whether I should write my sermon on depression before the game or risk waiting until after...

Indeed! I'd have to camp out at Mrs Miggins'!Posted on: 26 February 2011 by Chillkram
Italy again play well at home but fail to capitalise on their opportunities. One day they'll figure out how to do that and will be a fully fledged Six Nations team, rather than the also-rans.

This is going to be a very tough game for England I think. It will be a real test for them and we will see if they are over-confident. They must not believe their own hype like they did against South Africa.

Wales did not deserve to win that game and if only Bergomasco had kicked his points
