Forum Rugby Club - 2010-11 Season

Kicking off the new season's thread with some sad news.
Leicester Tigers' Harry Ellis is to retire at 28 because of persistent left knee problems.
On the bright side, Leicester does of course have Ben Youngs (and perhaps Harry could remain involved in a mentoring role).
But it's always unfortunate when a player (wherever) has to retire (early) because of unresolvable injury problems.

France look to have the measure of England at the moment and England are looking slightly panicky.

I think the French have the edge and this game does look to be following a similar pattern to the game against South Africa in the Autumn. It all went a bit wrong in the second half then! It could be similar now I fear.

Yeeeessssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh ye of little faith

I think England won that on defence as much as anything today. France could have had a couple of tries with the bounce of the ball, but so could England had Ashton looked right or been confident enough to take it on himself rather than go left. Also not too sure what was wrong with Tindall's try.
In the second half England were much better at the breakdown and committed more in terms of players and effort and that's were they won it.
England did lack precision at times and failed to execute on a few occasions. They will need to fix this against the big teams as chances will be fewer.
Still, they are progressing and were much cannier in the second half. Sometimes you need to win ugly.

Exactly.

I wonder if the Saffies will win ugly or with panache tomorrow
Posted on: 26 February 2011 by Chillkram
Back to fighting now?!!
Posted on: 27 February 2011 by deadlifter
Seems like the Saffies are winning with panache and a hat trick of yellow cards for the pests including Tim Payne, it's about time that pleb was offloaded and it's good to see he has not made it into the England side so far.

So close yet so far for Scotland, I thought ( and hoped )they would beat Ireland

Poo.
Posted on: 27 February 2011 by JWM
Do you in fact mean 'double poo'?
Scotland vs Ireland - quite a scrappy game, reflected in the close score line; but on balance the better side won.
Wasps - I'm sorry, but the wheels really do seem to be coming off the pram. Three sin binnings..., brawling..., not a good sign of happy campers.

No, triple poo. Glaws, Tigers and now Sarries. Not good.Posted on: 28 February 2011 by deadlifter

How great it is to see that ITV are promoting their forthcoming Rugby coverage by playing samples of "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath. Great stuff.
(This track has a particular significance for us, because a friend who is a demure young lady who plays drums for a local silver band decided to stretch herself, so joined a heavy rock band. We can hardly imagine her thrashing it out on 'War Pigs' but she does )

I used to have that track and all their early albums on tape, but the Murphy cassette player ate them in the end

Great game free on ESPN at the moment
Glaws Vs Bath

Oop's looks like Olly Barkley has just broke his leg

Full time on a brilliant game that had it all, so Glaws come away with a 34-22 win and the full five points

14-9 To the Tigers at half time with the Saffies up to their usual game of kick the leather of the ball

Oh yes yes "Jingle Bells Jingle Bells" oh what fun it to do the double over Barf and beat Saints away all in 8 days.
I hope Tigers stuff the Saffers and we will climb up to 2nd soon.

Oops!! (Titter, titter!!!)
Posted on: 05 March 2011 by deadlifter
Unfortunately a travesty occurred and the Saffies won as the bloody stupid referee gave them a penalty when they were offside, it`s a crying shame that the refs cannot be held accountable for absolutely idiotic decisions

Says the Tigers' PR and Communications Manager, Saul Uzer!!!
