Forum Rugby Club - 2010-11 Season

Kicking off the new season's thread with some sad news.

Leicester Tigers' Harry Ellis is to retire at 28 because of persistent left knee problems.

On the bright side, Leicester does of course have Ben Youngs (and perhaps Harry could remain involved in a mentoring role).

But it's always unfortunate when a player (wherever) has to retire (early) because of unresolvable injury problems.

Poo again. Another defeat. Even I'm struggling to draw anything positive from this season.

Best come over to the dark side, plenty to be positive about

I'd rather eat my own testicles.

Come on Leinster!

No try. Tee hee!

Posted on: 09 April 2011 by Chillkram

Try for Leinster. Double tee, double hee!

And now Flood misses a penalty.

Not looking good for Tigers. They're (not) great!!!

Well a victory for the midlands at least with Northamptons 23-13 win over Ulster

I have cousins in Northampton, so am quite happy to wish Saints the very best for the next phases of the HC.

Re Tigers, just hoping the Bath bashing wasn't the season's highpoint. We need to pick things up a bit...

Nick Cain has a interesting write up in the Rugby paper concerning the referee Nigel Owens performance in the Tigers Vs Leinster quarter final regarding his lenient attitude to Leinster's cheating at the breakdown and the lineout but his scrutiny of the Tigers and their penalty count. Good job he is neutral and goes to show my little rants about refs are not just me being biased

Got my tickets for the Glaws game on Saturday today as part of my 41st birthday, Happy days. I find myself asking for tickets for a Tigers game for b day or Christmas presents rather than material things more and more the older I get,but next season I have been given permission for a season ticket so I'll have too find some different ideas for pressies, maybe I will add to my thirteen Tigers jerseys that I already have and the club emblem tattooed on my considerably sized calves Lol.

Yes Cinders, you shall go to the ball...  Been permitted to buy a ticket for Saturday and sitting in Clubhouse stand again ... but the right end of the row this time

Don't know if I'll have time to meet up as the girls will be shopping whilst I'm watching, and I might be required for a quick getaway afterwards.

If it weren't for the uncertainty of ko times and days, I'd be going for a ST too.  Gets me out of the house apparently...  OMO - Old Man Out!

James, you are next door to where we are standing on the terraces,so if you let me know by text when you arrive there could be a very nice cool beer to your liking waiting. Ps. Flyfisher there could be one for you too
Posted on: 14 April 2011 by JWM

I think I've booked near enough to the date to have to collect ticket rather than it being posted.  I'll try to get there in the best time possible to allow for socialising!

Posted on: 14 April 2011 by deadlifter
Look forward to seeing you, now flyfisher you are conspicuous by your absence

Well Mr Deadlifter I would think that todays result will shut you up for a few months.

Well let me see now this season, Gloucester beat Tigers at Kingsholm, and now get a 41-41 draw and scored 5 tries at Welford Road this afternoon.

Gingle bells gingle bells.......

Doubtfull on that, but a great game which Tigers threw away or should that be Staunton  i sincerely hope he is on the receiving end of a lot of grief. Thirty seconds were left on the clock and all they had to do was run it down  . The Tigers defence at times was appalling gifting Glaws trys and Ben Youngs needs a word in his ear, if they want to win the premiership final again they will have to seriously knuckle down and take a long look at themselves because as it stands we may win the season but the final will be a different story altogether

No panic 13-17 down at half time, though DL, Mrs DL and I all agreed that Youngs needs his ears boxing.  Then up to 34-20...., and it began to look 'more like it'.  Tigers let in two identical soft tries through an almost totally unmarked Tigers' right wing.  But going up to 41-34, with a minute to go I thought we'd got away with it, very narrowly.  30 seconds to go, 7 pts up, what would Tigers (or another sane side) normally do?  Close the game down and wait out the 30 seconds with a gently rolling maul.  What did Tigers do?  Couldn't see whether Ben Youngs started it, but certainly I saw flyhalf Flood trying some riskily inventive play, during which the ball was lost and the Glaws back hurtled straight down the unmarked Tigers' right wing, Manu looking on helplessly, straight down my throat ... AGAIN, which plus conversion brought it level, whistle, game over.

However, looking more objectively (as I am capable of doing) beautiful day, capacity 24,000 appreciative crowd, lots of clapping both sides, no pantomime boos, 10 tries and 82 points.  A nice pint or two of handpumped Tiger with m'chums.  Altogether an entertaining afternoon, and still 3pts out of the game.  If that had been my first ever First Class rugby match, I would consider myself to have been very fortunate.
