Forum Rugby Club - 2010-11 Season

Kicking off the new season's thread with some sad news.

Leicester Tigers' Harry Ellis is to retire at 28 because of persistent left knee problems.

On the bright side, Leicester does of course have Ben Youngs (and perhaps Harry could remain involved in a mentoring role).

But it's always unfortunate when a player (wherever) has to retire (early) because of unresolvable injury problems.

I can't believe I had to miss the second half to go and amuse the kids on the Wii!!!!

Second half was 19-0 James.

After a terrible first half defensively, Edwards must have given them such a kick up the backside.

They were much more organised and driven and Walder gave them a far better balance at 10 than Flutey.

We're already better off than normal at this stage of the season!

Yeah, TV was still on the other room so I was getting more excited whenever I heard another cheer. Not allowed to leave small children alone to try and kill each other with the balance board though...

...and it's all gone quiet over there!
Posted on: 19 September 2010 by JWM
Sorry about 'quietness', didn't get back from Rome until nearly midnight last night.

Well done, Pests, making the most of a Tigers squad currently much-depleted because of medium-term injuries.

I imagine you'll be up for the return fixture at WR, when normal service will be resumed?

But of course, sir, wouldn't miss it for the world!

Rome, eh? My favourite city. I've only been back six weeks from my last visit there. Where did you visit, James?

What is this James, some kind of exchange visit?
Posted on: 19 September 2010 by JWM
Still taking it all in. My first visit. (A salvaged part of my scheduled study leave that was scuppered by my second round of back probs in the Spring.) Amazing!

Arrived Monday evening. Tuesday to Thursday mornings visited:

Vatican and St Peter's, St Paul's Outside the Wall, St John Lateran, Catacombs of St Sebastian, Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel (instead of Papal Audience!), St Clement's, Forums (for which I have a partiality Winker) Trajan's Column, Capitoline and some shopping for a few new work duds.

Castel Sant'Angelo, Colosseum, St Mary Major, Circus Maximus from the outside only (sadly) on this occasion. And sadly didn't get to see the Pantheon and city centre churches I'd love to see. But there's a limit to what one can do in effectively 2 days, even starting at 7am!

Thursday afternoon to Saturday morning:

Assisi and associated Franciscan sites in Umbria.

Stayed at the Hotel Conciliazione on the Via Borgo Pio in Rome, so about 200m from St Peter's Square. And the REALLY WONDERFUL Hotel San Giacomo in Assisi - family run and superb and attentive service, which belies it's apparently lowly 2**.

Like I said, they send one of theirs and we...

Crikey James, you packed in a lot, almost up to my standards!

On a Sunday you can walk the Appian Way to the catacombs as it is closed to traffic, really gives you a feel for the ancient city.

I'm back there in October. Will be my third time this year alone!

Right, as it now shows we were lulling you into a false sense of security and normal service has now resumed with Leeds sent packing with their tails between their legs after a right good kicking. GAME ON Winker Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I thought they played well against Irish for large parts of the game on opening day. Talking of which, Irish looked impressive against Newcastle on Saturday.

Magnificent and resounding victory for Wasps tonight, 24-25 at Sale.

HQ here we come!

A weak Tigers side beaten [just] by the saffies 26-20 with some iffy penalties given by the ref, oh well shit happens Roll Eyes
Posted on: 03 October 2010 by JWM
Well, a 2nd-string Tigers' XV put in a performance with many positives against a 1st-string Saffacens' XV.

True, there were some disappointments (including, I suppose, losing...) but lots of good things to take away, such as young Billy Twelvetrees playing out of position at Fly Half. And the scrummaging, especially in the first half.

At the top of the tree, the usual anticipation is to lose away and win and home, so true to form in that sense.

Sounds like some excuse making to me!

Tigers players that were out today
chuter
crane
flood
murphy
allen
deacon
youngs
both tuillangi`s
woods
waldrom
ayerza
staunton
parling
blaze
so pretty much the first xv were out compared with a full strength saffies
Posted on: 03 October 2010 by deadlifter
Thinking about it the saffies must have still been worried because Hougaard was trying to drop goals at any opportunity
