Forum Rugby Club - 2010-11 Season

Kicking off the new season's thread with some sad news.

Leicester Tigers' Harry Ellis is to retire at 28 because of persistent left knee problems.

On the bright side, Leicester does of course have Ben Youngs (and perhaps Harry could remain involved in a mentoring role).

But it's always unfortunate when a player (wherever) has to retire (early) because of unresolvable injury problems.

You have to agree though that to lose by only six points with that lot out and against a full strength saffies is pretty damn good Big Grin

I went to a black tie do for Martyn Williams on Wednesday night. Great do and the funniest auctioneer I have ever seen. Apparently he is the baseball presenter on Channel 5, Jonny Gould. Never heard of him before.

Anyway, loads of rugby players there past and present. I saw Martyn Williams, Gethin Jenkins, Jason Leonard, Jamie Roberts, Martin Bayfield, Simon Shaw, Joe Worsley and Tim Payne. When Martin Williams got up on stage next to Bayfield he looked tiny! Even Joe Worsley looked average height. Jamie Roberts, however, I didn't expect. Crikey he's a big b*gger for a centre!

Great do, lovely meal, loads of fun and some world cup winners to shake hands with. What could be better on a Wednesday night?

Heineken cup weekend. I'll be glued to t' telly all weekend!

Slow start from Saints last night. They huffed and puffed and really struggled to get past Castres. Reihana's kicking was woeful, but they squeaked through in the end, a moment of genius from Ashton and Foden breaking through a stubborn defence for their only try.

Roll on Sunday and Toulouse to lose!

Dagnabbit! I had to go out and missed the Scarlets v Perpignan. 9 tries no less.

Irish will come to regret that bonus point they allowed Munster to grab in the last minute. I remember Wasps allowing them to do the same thing a couple of seasons ago and Munster went on to win the whole thing.

What a performance from the Wasps in Toulouse! They came within a whisker of beating them with a missed penalty in the last minute!

Still they scored the only try of the game and scored a bonus point for only losing by 2 points.

Not the tonking some predicted!

Tigers were very lucky yesterday and need to up their game somewhat,Bath seem to have come undone today as well.
Still i have my ticket for the game against the Aussies on the 9th Nov and then down to HQ on the 27th Nov for the England vs Springboks game, bloody exspensive tickets though at over £80 Eek

Bath muffed it by not taking that drop goal at the end. Bad decision making.

With Moody out for a month now i wonder who will lead England out ????
Posted on: 10 October 2010 by Chillkram
Got to be Simon Shaw, Tim Payne, Riki Flutey, Joe Worsley or Dom Waldouck.
Posted on: 10 October 2010 by Chillkram
I thought you'd agree!

Oh, I didn't realise Dan Cole was injured!
Posted on: 10 October 2010 by deadlifter
As you know full well cole is firing on all cylinders and is above and beyond tim Payne Big Grin
Posted on: 10 October 2010 by Chillkram
Even Tim Payne would have improved today's scrum! Wasps are much better than last season now Walder is at 10, but the scrum is still an area of weakness we are not used to enduring.
Posted on: 10 October 2010 by Chillkram
Shaw then.
Posted on: 10 October 2010 by Chillkram
Or Flutey.
Posted on: 10 October 2010 by deadlifter
Doubtfull,Wasps need to offload Payne and spend some money on the front row
Posted on: 11 October 2010 by JWM
I do remember watching Dan Cole absolutely trash the grumpy old man of the Wasps' front row at WR last season, sitting with a couple of friends who are Wasps' fans... (I'll send the men in the white coats in due course).

Tim Payne is definitely past his sell by date and his conduct does not improve for it.

If Mad Dog is off injured (again ... which is why LT didn't offer him the generous new contract he demanded), then we need the best man for the job, and that is Tom Croft.

At last the reasoned reply, and i fully concur but we know some that won`t Winker

JW, Chill and DL - you have PM re LT vs Wasps.
Posted on: 11 October 2010 by Chillkram
Got it. It will be good to see Tim Payne mangle ladyboy Cheryl Dan Cole. I think he had a cold last time.
