The Ashes 2010/11 'down under'
Posted by: JamieL_v2 on 18 November 2010
I thought I would get a thread going for what promises to be an very interesting series in Australia over the next few months.
Great to see Monty Panasar in the England side against Australia A in the last of the warm up matches, taking a one handed catch no less.
Australia don't seem to be hitting their stride, although Steve Smith might well fins a stage to blossom on. I still think he looks like the character on the right of Steely Dan's 'Countdown to Ecstasy'
Really looking forward to this series.

Nice one England, worth the sleep deprivation.

You did well to close it out. It started raining heavily with thunder and lightning at about 2.30pm. It's still raining nearly two hours later. The remainder of the match would've been called off, no question.

I would have paid a substantial sum to have done the post-match interview with my favourite Australian:
So Ricky, you've lost the Ashes twice and now you are 1 down with 3 to play on home soil. Your pace attack is anaemic and you've dropped your main strike bowler, you have no spinner to speak of and England have managed to score 1137 for 7 wickets in two innings. Most of your batsmen are out of form, you just had a personal nighmare in 2 innings and your captaincy is under scrutiny. On top of that you don't appear to be able to field or catch and the running between the wickets is dreadful. Your opener is out with an achilles and the vice-captain has a chronic back complaint. Finally it appears the famous ozzie fighting spirit has gone as you were bowled out this morning inside an hour by a team without one key bowler when another hour or so would have taken you to safety as the rain came down.
In conclusion ricky, what are the positives you will be taking from this game?

might it be too much to begin thinking we might get a lunchtime finish with an innings to spare.
Innings & 71 - it was only a dream - honest
The folks in Adelaide sent an e-mail yesterday to go look at the www Oz press
......and we think our press is bad, those guys take no prisoners, then go for the jugular & drink the blood.
Poor ol' Ricky, not a good place to be. Its a shame really as he has been an outstanding captain
He might be past his sell by date, but with no other players stepping up and at the same grade as the all conquering team of yesteryear, what's the alternative.

I see that Shane Warne is apparently knobbing Liz Hurley. Now I'd swap 600+ test wickets for that! he doesn't have too. The man is truly a god!

She should have gone to Specsavers?

Now that's my sort of girl. Taking one for the team to keep him in retirement.

A good night to have insomnia, an even better morning to win a toss. Excellent so far.

Looks like a below par score to me, what a horror show for the top-order. Without a decent tail-wag it would have been a real disaster!

Australia 268 -v- England 29-0
Did ya see Ponting get out
He had got 12 runs off 10 balls, but was looking very uncomfortable.
He was taken off a superb one-handed catch by Collingwood high to his right at third slip.
One of the best catches I've seen for a long time.

Actually, you've got to have balls to pull off a catch like that.

Series on! At last. Note how the chat starts as soon as the Aussies have a decent session.
Stay with it boys.

The Aussies are bowling much better. Right in the slot. All that short stuff by England at ordinary pace was pretty average. Pitched well up gives you a chance there.
