The Ashes 2010/11 'down under'

Posted by: JamieL_v2 on 18 November 2010

I thought I would get a thread going for what promises to be an very interesting series in Australia over the next few months.

Great to see Monty Panasar in the England side against Australia A in the last of the warm up matches, taking a one handed catch no less.

Australia don't seem to be hitting their stride, although Steve Smith might well fins a stage to blossom on. I still think he looks like the character on the right of Steely Dan's 'Countdown to Ecstasy'

Really looking forward to this series.

Forget about the good bowling, it's all about the sledging.

I like to see it personally. There's nothing wrong with being asked how you are enjoying Australia, as long as nobody takes offence when you share your view. Winker

Roll on the MCG. This is what it's all about, I was seriously worried that the focus would be on a poor Australia team...now whoever wins will be seen as having fought for it. Game on.

Does this help?

Great comment from Sarah today 'I'm glad Ella (our daughter due this month) didn't come to today, I wouldn't want her to share her birthday with that ****** Ponting.'

****** does not stand for Ricky!

Series on most definitiely. Apparently the Aussies and preparing a new pitch for Melbourne, they have had advisers from trampoline makers on how to lay a new pitch quickly.

Oh and just to keep on track. Bugger!

Polishing their sledges?

I follow cricket very close.

IMHO the team that will win the ASHES this time is the one who makes the least amount of mistakes in the last two Test matches. Both sides have quite a few " weak links " in their team.

It may be as simple as which which Pieterson or Johnson shows up on the day Big Grin

I think England will win the series as long as they don't panic after the unexpected thrashing in Perth.

They'll be fine, they won't panic.

Or will they?

Though I no longer listen to the ball-by-ball commentaries these days, I do enjoy the Ashes series enough to positively listen to the news on it.

There is still a true competitive spirit, and though I sometimes dislike the Australian put downs of the England team [when we are loosing] such as the notion that we don't care and so on, it is like everything else where a team is concerned. Sometimes a team is going through a "golden" period and is simply better. This applies to both sides, and that is he glory of it. There is real commitment even from the less fine times – be it a season or even three or four ...

I do not believe that the series will disappear into mediocrity.

There used to be real interest here in the UK with the series against the West Indies, but really cricket’s significance there seems to have decreased, which is slightly sad, even if they used to regularly thrash us!

Australia 98

Sweet

Ricky lost the plot big time, arguing with both umps over a KP not out. Seems he heard something and started demanding the 3rd ump.
Any bets on a skip change ??
