n-Vi glitch - "DVI timing ON"? Service Menu?

Posted by: JohnS on 19 December 2010

The power glitched yesterday and my n-Vi decided to perform a factory reset. Unfortunately that means it now won't work with my Vizio plasma TV through the DVI/HDMI connection.

When I first got the n-Vi, it took me, my dealer and Naim UK a little time to figure out that we could make this work using the following compatibility procedure from the remote (leave 1 second between key presses)
---
open (drawer opens)
stop (drawer closes)
2
4
0
6
open (drawer opens)
stop (drawer closes)

"DVI timing ON" will be displayed briefly on the front panel
---

Unfortunately following this procedure now does NOT result in "DVI timing ON" being displayed.

I searched the forums and found this: n-Vi HDMI connection problem
but pressing and holding the input button on the front panel for a couple of seconds (unit on disc input, no disc in drawer, drawer closed) doesn't get a Service Menu to appear on the front panel. I can't even figure out how to find out what version I am running.

Any suggestions, please?

OK, I found the AV product firmware update information 2008 post, so now I know I am running:
PIC c02-02
Chrs 000.182.005.001
DAB Not fitted
Region 1

Looks like I may be a little out of date

OK, well, I found the CDs from my dealer, updated to:
PIC c02-15
Chrs 000.189.005.006
followed the open (drawer opens), stop (drawer closes), 2, 4, 0, 6, open (drawer opens), stop (drawer closes) process
got the message "DVI timing ON" and all is good again. Curse you PG&E! Must be time for a glass of wine now.

Well done John, you got there in the end!

Yes Richard, I did, thank you. I do have a nagging suspicion that it shouldn't be this difficult, though.
