Trans-Atlantic Crossing

Posted by: mikeeschman on 07 November 2010

Next November, my wife and I are planning to fly to Lisbon, then sail from there to Barbados, on a large sailing ship.

Has anyone on the forum made this passage?

If so, please tell me of your experience.

No, but can you swim?

Sail boats are as dangerous a form of sea travel as has yet been devised. Modern technology may indeed render sail power safe but today it is based in traditional and highly risky methods.

Hi Mike,

Personally I've never sailed further than Brittany, but my partner has crossed the Atlantic and generally sailed about a lot on yachts and did quite a few trips on tall ships in her youth. She absolutely loved it and I bet you'll have the time of your life.

I think George exaggerates the dangers. Not that there aren't any of course.

Have fun

David
