Just watched this on BBC, based on the Michael Dibdin books. Very good it was too. Catch it if you missed it.

Loved the shots of Rome. Very familiar.

One of the regular conversations I have with people if discussing TV is how come BBC productions (even if via 3rd party) tend to have much better photography than the stuff on commercial channels?

I couldn’t disagree more. BBC productions usually involve the majority of the shots being out of focus. Although I must admit Zen was very good.

I recently viewed “The Art of Germany” on BBC4. This was the worst example of photography I’ve ever seen. They even displayed images or paintings with only a small portion of the image in focus. WHY.

The link below is out of focus most of the time. It culminates in three views of beautiful German scenery, two of which are out of focus. WHY

Or maybe not.

Anybody waiting at the traffic lights about to cross the Ponte Sant Angelo, wouldn’t see a picturesque cobbled street if they looked in the rear view mirror.

I think a fair bit of this is down to the compression applied to make it possible to stream the video online.

I thought Tron had a very good Zen message when I saw it. Jeff Bridges did a good job once again giving some humanity to a film.
