Using Denon remote to control Naim kit?

Posted by: zebra3 on 08 May 2010

Hi All

I've moved house, and lost the remote to my Nait 5. Very frustrating, and I've looked everywhere and it's bizarre. Anyway, I have a Denon AVR-3310 AVR which comes with an extra remote so you can control other pieces of kit. Has anyone here got a Denon AVR and managed to get this remote working with Naim kit, as there isn't a code for Naim in the Denon code list? All I really need the remote for is to get into Unity Gain mode, unless anyone knows how you can do it on the Nait 5 amp itself. I can't work out how to, however you can use the buttons on the front of the 5i to get into that mode.

Thanks.

This is a long shot but give it a try. Naim pre amp remote controls operate Quad cd players. The quad uses a philips chip set. I would try the philips code and see what happens. It most probably wont work but it's a start.

Good luck.

As far as I remember I used a Philips code on an old universal remote for my CD3.5.

Cheers, chaps. I'll give it a go; I've tried a few already with no success. I'm beginning to think a Logitech Harmony is the way forward considering all the new gear I've just bought. I'll let you know the codes work though, in case anyone else has the same issue. Ta!

Naim use Philips RC5 codes. However, there are a lot of them so there's no guarantee that one manufacturer's chosen RC5 codeset will be absolutely identical to anothers. However, most basic functions should share the same codes. For example, my Mothers Arcam amp can be controlled via a Naim remote handset. And pretty much all the Philips based CD players in the family (Rotel, Marantz, Meridian etc..) can also be controlled via a Naim handset.
