Smaller CRT TV - Sony Trinitron?

Muchachos

May well need to buyt a smallish TV, and I'm still a fan of CRT. I know that Sony Trinitron is very well regarded, but any tips as to models to look out for? If there was a small Aconda, I'd go for that, too.

TIA

If you really want a CRT I'd agree that Triniton's are as good as any made ...I've just got hold of a mint condition 28" one for my spare room advertised on the online "bulletin board" in my workplace for the princely sum of £20 !

There are loads to buy on Ebay although nearly all will need picking up by yourself - expect to pay a max of about £40

I’d recommend the 28fx66 or 32fx66, although I wouldn’t describe them as small. Excellent picture and sound, includes built in sub woofer.

The more advanced Trinitrons are far superior to the basic ones.

Look out for 100Hz, Digital Comb Filter and Dynamic Picture Processor.

As Jet said, they can now be picked up for peanuts. Unfortunately I paid £900 for mine 8 years ago. The picture is still perfect after 8 years, I’ve considered buying a LCD or Plasma, but been put off buy the inferior picture quality. Big Grin

Thank you, I'll keep my eyes open.

The only CRTs worth picking up now are the Super Fine Pitch Sony sets. I have seen them at $100-$150 locally.
They are the only one that are really High Definition. The others are HD in marketing name only. Those ones should only be called ED as they are in the low to mid  600s vertically, up from ~480 of the best SD sets.
At 4.5ft (Ideal for 1080i and 34"screen) my Sony KD-34XS955 is very good in a small room (9.25ft)
Ok if you are on a budget, but you miss out on a lot new features and 2 ft depth takes over that area of the room.
Upside is unsurpassed color, contrast, and depth. Probably reliability too.

Sound useful, thanks; I assume they are available in PAL; plus I need something a lot smaller than 32".

I always preferred the more natural picture afforded by the Panasonic sets over the etched look of theSony Trinitrons. I still use a 32" Panasonic set but it's not small - it's huge and heavy (100kg+?). Obviously it's not HD but it's a very natural looking picture. I used to use a 25" 4x3 Panasonic TX-25AD2 and that was fab as well as easy to carry. I had it repaired cheaply once and the repairer told me not to change it because in his opinion it had one of the best pictures on the market ever. I gave it to a friend who loves it.

The widescreen CRTs tend to be a lot heavier.

Frank.

I still have a Panasonic CT-30WX15 ( Year 2005 & ISF calibrated), and the colour on it is poor. I can appreciate some viewer's preference for a softer film look, but I hope the previous few years of Panasonic CRTs were better.
Blu-ray on my Panasonic is a waste. The 2004 Toshiba was the decent alternate to Sony.
