Really enjoying his work!  So far both "Neighbourhood" and "Playground" are sublime.

Schumann ~ Kinderszenen, Davidsbündlertänze performed on 1903 Steinway by Ito Ema.

The calm before the storm. Actually, the storm is here already, in the midst of dumping more than half a meter of snow.

Abbado recorded his Nozze di Figaro in Vienna in the early 90s, with one of the starriest casts ever assembled for this opera. The result is one of the sweetest Figaro's on record - if you know the Marriner recording, well, this is its polar opposite twin. From among the many good recordings of this opera, I rate it among the top next to Solti, Levine, Giulini and - maybe - Jacobs.

This particular budget reissue is of note due to some of the noisiest cover art for a classical record (the picture here doesn't do it justice), and more importantly, DG have seemed fit to correct a particularly nasty edit that was in the original edition (at least on my copy).

Best regards,

EJ

I'd forgotten how good this was. Pity everything else they did was absolute toss...
