Yeah the recording and playing is stunning, I think this CD highlights one of my problems with older Jazz trio's is that the bass and drums are not really part of the tune just a way to keep the Sax/trumpet/trombone players in time, whereas this trio its all three that make the music so great. Remember this is just my naive ears trying to work out what it is that makes me love this Jazz but dislike older Jazz.

I am not sure what it is - you might be right so I will listen to some old and new and see how it works out. I quite enjoy the older jazz but I much prefer the newer, to my ears, more exciting modern European scene.

There is no doubt, with a band like E.S.T., all three of the players were there on equal terms and all integral to the outcome.

Thanks. I just listened to the one track on spotify and it sounded interesting. I see they have a track called "Song for Esbjorn". I will look out for them. Do you know if they have any CD's of their music - I can only find MP3's so far.

This was given to me as a Christmas present on the year of its release and, curiously, I only ever played the first disc once then put it away and left it. I didn't even play disc two at all. (Maybe this was because of the crappy packaging which put the discs at risk of being scratched simply by removing them from the cardboard sleeve.) This weekend I have had to move some CDs into other storage areas which has anabled a re-evaluation of many albums including this. What a pleasant surprise I have found it to be! Kate has grown up.
