When I bought this on CD in 2005 I think, I couldn't believe a band this good were still obscure after 10+ years of toil. I really like this song based cycle of PT (+ Stupid Dream), before they went on a Drop-D guitar fest for the next four albums. I would not expect any PT release until the end of 2012. I think the break from each other will do them good. A new direction will be most welcome and show that the band are still progressing.

A great album. Newton sure knows how to craft songs that demonstrate his unparallelled acoustic guitar playing & clever lyrics.

Have a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpanipkxbwA ,which hopefully proves the point.

I'm torn whether I like this one better than his earlier release. I think "Hand Built By Robots" might just egde it. Still a wonderful album for fans of acoustic music.

...a lot less bumping into someone else this way.  Although, with the good looking partners, I think that this is what Brahms had in mind to do with duets

I like the playing of Tiberghien but unfortunately something in the recording quality bothers me with this CD.

A gorgeous smokey & sultry voice that tugs on your heart strings. Spanish copla fused with jazz.

Found this set in the cupboard... can't remember buying it let alone cleaning the records almost a year ago (i always pencil in the date of clean on the new replacement poly-paper sleeve).

My first play... some class musik on here!

I really do need to catalogue my collection of vinyl : )

Bach's St. John's Passion was the first of his two big sacred operas. Smaller in scale and - in some performances - more vibrant than the St. Matthew's Passion. Both definitely apply to this performance by the Ricercar consort, the newest OVPP recording - maybe not the best sung ever but very moving in places.

Perhaps i was in a more responsive mood second time around, or just gave it more focused attention… which is maybe what it needs… may also be a grower… presently my copy is not far from the cdp for a 3rd listen very soon.

What do you think of this version?

...and did you notice the deliberate mistake on the back cover? : )

EJ,

The only two, very different, recordings of the Shostakovich's piano preludes that I have are the 1987 performance of Tatania Nikolaeva and the 2009 disc of Jenny Lin which I highly recommend if you don't have it.
