On CD:-

Roy Orbisson on Mobile Fidelity.

sensational.

I remember John Peel hoping that the "Tarnation" song "Big O Motel" was a tribute to Roy, now I see why.

Hey kuma,

Yep, it's a nice track, and probably the only one that doesn't drop the f-bomb (!)

I think the only Naked Music stuff I have is Lisa Shaw (Let It Ride) and Aya (Sean), that are kind of mellowish deep house. You could well be right - funny you should mention a faster version though, as someone's put out a sloowwed-down version of the whole thing. (I don't like it though.)

Not really listening to it right now, but the winner of The London Times hall of infamy for worst classical cover album ever.

If you like this one, the Westminster Gold label has many more to offer for your complete enjoyment, here's the link to the insane 70s cover art & full discography:

MS, I see your Holst, and I raise...

Of course, you wouldn't get Pogo doing vanity shots like that.

Inspired by the Mozart thread, which I am greatly enjoying but to which I have nothing to contribute.

Tchaikovsky No.5s. Three different covers interpretations.

CC,

For a while, I got hooked on the Naked Music stuff ( mainly Lisa Shaw,Miguel Migs, Blue Six etc... )

Love Lisa's voice. I also like Jersey Street's 'Step into the Light', too.

Anne Sofie von Otter singing Schubert. Technically fine but emotionally not wholly satisfactory, both Von Otter and Forsberg sound unfamiliar with the music and fail to bring across the greatness of many of these lieder (all personal experience of course). It's still a record I regularly return to because even a tentative Von Otter is worth hearing.

Cheers,
