Haim: Epigraphs is a lovely companion to The River.

Now on the CD player, just arrived today. On a first listen, the 3rd sonata has me grinning like a fool.

Why does this f**king forum allow you to post a picture in one thread , then seconds later it refuses to show one of the same pictures????????

WYSISYG shows some data there but no picture, too frustrating, to be tolerated much longer.

Steve Hackett - Cured, on vinyl.

Almost 30 years old and actually has less finger prints on it than my copy of the new Elbow, it's quieter too.

Chris Rea - Whatever Happened To Benny Santini ?  on vinyl.

If anyone is interested.......Benny Santini was the name that the record company tried to call Chris Rea.

For all you Folk freeks out there...

The full album can be heard here http://emilybarker.bandcamp.com/album/almanac

some blurb...

In this almanac appear stories of love, renewal, the importance of community and our relationship to the earth. Shadowing these lighter themes are darker truths of untold atrocities committed by settlers on indigenous Australians during colonisation, the mass hysteria regarding a Scottish witch-hunt, flourishing love and good old-fashioned heartbreak.

The album weaves a compelling musical tapestry balancing contemporary influences with classic, folk-rooted song writing and is the third studio album by Anglo-Australian quartet Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo.

Kate Bush - Deeper Understanding - full length still video

Official still video for the new Kate Bush single "Deeper Understanding" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5UsjqXXcZ4

Director's Cut – more detail

by Kate Bush on Monday, 04 April 2011

Driector's Cut sees Kate revisit all of these tracks form her previous albums The Sensual World and The Red Shoes.  All drums and vocals on Director’s Cut are new performances and the album boasts some special guests including: Steve Gadd, Danny Thompson and, on backing vocals, Mica Paris

Here’s what Kate had to say about the remaking of 'The Sensual World', which will now be titled 'Flower of the Mountain':

"Originally when I wrote the song ‘The Sensual World’ I had used text from the end of ‘Ulysses’ by James Joyce, put to a piece of music I had written. When I asked for permission to use the text I was refused, which was disappointing. I then wrote my own lyrics for the song although I felt that the original idea had been more interesting.  Well, I’m not James Joyce am I? When I came to work on this project I thought I would ask for permission again and this time they said yes.   It is now re-titled ‘Flower Of the Mountain’ and I am delighted that I have had the chance to fulfill the original concept".

Three songs have been completely re-recorded, one of which is “This Woman’s Work”.

Kate adds: "For some time I have felt that I wanted to revisit tracks from these two albums and that they could benefit from having new life breathed into them. Lots of work had gone into the two original albums and now these songs have another layer of work woven into their fabric. I think of this as a new album".

Hyperion's Songs of Robert Schumann edition did for Schumann what the Hyperion Schubert edition did for Schubert: all solo, duo and part songs on disc, performed by the greatest singers of our time. The Schumann edition consists of 11 discs, each with a specially commission photograph of the artist on the cover. Kate's my favourite, and as a bonus she sings stunningly good.

A substantial portion of Schumann's Lieder came from late in his life, when he suffered from mental and physical issues. As Graham Johnson says in his notes to Vol.1, sometimes the distinction between the Schumann who is opening up new, never seen before vistas, or the Schumann who takes us on a confused stroll through the garden is surprisingly unclear - and the difference between bad and good lies with mostly with the performer. Nevertheless, these 11 discs side by side contain in my opinion some of the most beautiful music ever penned down.

Cheers,

EJ

Best known songs on Part 6 are the five Op.40 Lieder - with Der Soldat as centre piece. Stephan Loges' performance is worth the price of admission alone...

First play on disc 1 (of 3 x CD box-set)

After a few minutes of the first track acclimatising to the feel of acoustic reverberation the music begins to slowly draw me in.

The accompanying booklet is an interesting history lesson, wish I had more time to sit down, relax, and absorb this properly instead of while getting ready to go out to work.
