Does anyone know why Martha Argerich hasn't recorded more Bach?

To finish off this afternoon's Rush CD extravaganza:-

Why can't we look for members any more? We can search for members posts but trying to look through the "all members" list elicits a facility withdrawn response.

Recorded in 1987, (whereas the hyperion set was recorded 1990)

To my ears there is not a great deal to tell apart, i like what i hear from either musically.

Although, just wondering, are the trebles slightly brighter on this Melodiya?

Or more open?... a closer studio recording?... but it does sound very nice : )

The Songs of Robert Schumann, Vol.9. Some of the most obscure music Schumann wrote is sung with distinction by veterans Ann Murray and Felicity Lott. As I've said before, Graham Johnson isn't the most imaginative partner by a mile, but he knows the music well and as a result, inspires confidence in his singers. Apart from its completeness value, the whole set sets benchmarks across the range for how these Lieder should be performed. Even most of the well-known cycles are among the best available (only Christopher Maltman's otherwise good Dichterliebe on Vol.5 is where I prefer other singers, notably Simon Keenlyside (who sings the Kerner songs on Vol.2 of this series).

Cheers,

EJ
