What a great feature of streaming........Select a follder, sit back and be surprised by whatever track the machine selects next. Excellent. What will they think of next?

Good move pairing Pape with a real Wagner conductor for this disc: the level of intensity is turned up two notches compared to Pape's good but slightly tame first recital disc. I don't think he's a natural Wotan or Sachs - he sounds a bit too clean - but Pape's gorgeous bass, pronunciation and textual understanding provides ample compensation. And then there are a couple of truly outstanding moments: when the chorus steps up for the Meistersinger excerpt, and the whole Parsifal scene (with Domingo as Parsifal) are beautifully done.
Cheers,
EJ

Great stuff.....

The Songs of Robert Schumann, Vol.3 - which revolves around the "Frauenliebe and -Leben" cycle.
Banse sings sensitively but avoids the sentimentality that haunts these songs. A great performance.

A great "blast from the past" there, Lontano.
One of my favourite albums, which I have on clear vinyl.
