Stunning piece of music; unfortunately I believe this rather-hard-to-obtain Australian import is the only version of the piece available.

DG pulled all the stops for its first digital Aida. In the early 80s, there were not many singers who could sing the title role and Ricciarelli was - still is - a controversial choice. She does not always sound happy, but is very good in the more intimate scenes. The rest of the cast is pure luxury down to the smallest parts, and with Domingo on top form (his 3rd out of 4 recordings finds him at his most committed). I have the original premium package but the opera is now available as a budget two-fer.
