Hey Debs,

It hasn't left the HDX since I got it! (Well, I guess that doesn't carry the same weight as it used to, but you get the idea).

Before getting the disc, I only knew the sonata #2 in its guise for flute and piano. Been sampling the Kremer / Argerich but I just can't get used to Gidon Kremer's screechy sound. Shaham and his sister have a gorgeous tone, and their approach to Prokofiev is sweeter, more melancholic then demonic. If you care for this, you'll love this disc.

Both sonatas are great works of music. The other works on this disc are slight by comparison but easy on the ear.

Cheers,

EJ

EJ,

Thank you for that,

I would think this composition is good for sorting out the screechy from the peachy ; )

Much as I would probably find melancholy rather admirable on some level, I feel my itch needs the demonic bow back scratching interpretation...

I'm presently enjoying a sample listen to this ~

violin sonatas no.1 and 2 with 5 melodies with Ilya Grubert violin and Matti Raekallio piano.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prokof...02K1610A/ref=mb_oe_o

...and it isn't just Grubert, i can’t help but notice how involving the piano is too.

Sounds great, indeed! In case you'd like to compare, you can sample the Shahams here:

BTW I have another recording on order, a blind purchase:
