Here they are doing their thing in Italian. Note how the presenter and surroundings look very 1981, while the men-machine from the future still look cool as.

'Minicalcolatore':

Eccellente, ma Betamax era molto meglio di VHS!

That was a productive thread you started, Debbie. I went for Doug's recommendation of Anna Vinnitskaya and really enjoy this recording. EJ

Debs, Wine goggles or not, it is the morning after and we want to know your thoughts about Yundi Li / Leinsdorf etc..  I'm still waiting for my copy of the Leinsdorf. Doug

Gosh!

actually logged on here whilst just finishing the Yundi Li disc on my 2nd listen...

It's impressive how much better it all sounds on the audio system

(rather than spotify + little computer speakers).

The interaction between piano and orchestra is marvellous, occasionally the piano composition gets strangely complex until the Berlin Phil floods in (at the moment) to make sense and reason, and occasionally the Philharmonica goes passive for Yundi Li to add purpose, all very clever stuff imho.

Also good is the Ravel, especially imho the culminating of the presto final.

My thanks to Fred for this great recommendation : )

Leinsdorf - 6 CD box-set:

only had time for the disc 1, my first actual listen to Prokofiev's 2nd Symphony, starting on loud trumpets... with volume knob set too high... which blew my socks off!

I'm trying not to think of this as Americanisation of Russian music sound.. and the bias of only Russians can make good of Prokofiev (and Shostakovich et,al).

Presently started playing disc 3, the Leinsdorf/Browning version of Prokofiev's concertos for piano 1 to 3 which imo no.1 sounds far more romantic n dreamy, but i hear what i feel a good interpretation.

Lots to get though and i'm in no hurry to rush anything in this boxful of delights : )

Hi G

I am still "getting use to" this.  I bought it and his previous because of recommendations here by people I respect.  I haven't totally taken to his voice and singing style, but there appears to be plenty here lyrically to continue to work on it.

regards
