Hi Jono -

 

Yes, but he has kind of gone his own way.  The Griot influence is still there, but Vieux's sound is more modern and electrified.   I believe this is his third CD, and all have been excellent IMO.

 

Am a big fan of West African (mostly Mali and Senegal) popular music:  Baaba Maal, Youssou N'Dour, Habib Koite, Issa Bagayogo, Papa Webma, Pape & Cheikh, Wasis Diop, among others.

 

Wonderful music!
