Prokofiev's two sonatas for violin, in very different performances. Shaham and his sister take a bittersweet approach while Mintz and Bronfman go for biting and ironic. The brilliant first sonata is the demonic of the two, and Mintz/Bronfman seem borne to play it. The second, a reworking of the flute sonata, is more lyrical and honors are about equal. All in all, both worthwhile discs but Mintz/Bronfman is something special. It seems out of print, but I can recommend the effort to get a good pre-loved copy of it.

Regards,

Hi Floid, is it good?

I have no problem with Benoit David singing, as I found the lineup with him and Oliver Wakeman had such energy on the last UK tour, even though he did strain on some of the old songs.

The tracks from 'Drama' were the highlights though.

I did try the short samples on Amazon, but the synth sounds sounded very 80's (Asia) with Geoff Downes back in the band.

Is it a new 'Drama', or is it an synth heavy Asia-Yes hybrid? Somehow I suspect I will buy it anyway.

Hi JamieL

I would say if you liked the Drama era then you will like this. I personally loved that era so for me it's a good album. I have played this in the mind set as a new recording and tried to put out of my mind all the history and listened for what it is.
