Bartok's three piano concertos, played by Stephen Kovacevich (at the time he still went by the name of Bishop) and Colin Davis. Great performances of music which is demanding to listen to and I imagine must be extremely demanding to play. Sound quality is very impressive.

Cheers,

EJ

Dvorak's cello concerto, smoothly but brilliantly played by Ma and Maazel.

BTW what's up with the insane new layout? Hope it's a temporary fluke

I think'll quit posting until this is fixed.

EJ

(I posted this reply in the wrong thread the other day, but since it has been in the player again, here it is in the right thread, sorry.)

This has been my most played album this year, (alongside Rick Smith, Underworld 'Bungalow with Stairs).

The music from Spike Lee's film 'When the Levees Broke', but not just a soundtrack album, but a performance of the music written for that, plus other pieces inspired, if that is the right word, by the hurricane Katrina disaster.

The music seems to have more focus and feel than much jazz I have heard from the post Be-bop musicians who often came through with Art Blakey, and similar bands. Less showing off how great their playing is, and more playing from the heart.

Highly recommended if US jazz is your thing. Thre are plenty of clips on YouTube if you wish to listen to a little of the album.

EJ,

Just like cars, everything gets uglier and tackier. Forget about form and focus on the music. We need all the good input we can get.

Would driving a gondolier count as exercise?  Just don't ask me to sing...

Passion with a good sense of fun...

This is probably the most informal and entertaining Couperin i now have the pleasure of enjoying, and these recordings all done nicely close up and in your face too.

Really excellent imho : )
