On the black stuff.
For those that dont know this is the late great Ian Durys son.

Definitely!
Being a big Floyd fan, I love to use this album as a "reference" or "tester", partly because I absolutely love it and partly because it's so good for the purpose, containing such a mixture of both electric and acoustic guitar, lovely sounding drums, in places, piano, as well as great vocals, and on and on......
It's nearly always on in my house and has been for years!
(Yes, maybe there's something wrong with me!?)
As for my contribution to this thread, I have recently "discovered" The Ghost of Tom Joad by Bruce Springsteen.
I found reference to this in a hifi component review once, being used as a sample record.
I felt the same as the author in that I can usually take or leave Springsteen, but was intrigued by his comments on the album - so I gave it a listen.
It is a dark and sultry album, but is nothing like any other Springsteen that I've ever heard, being practically all just vocal and acoustic guitar.
I have found that it just grows on you, more and more, with each playing.
I would urge anyone to try it out!

Good God, NN.
Have you gone roundie on us with that *screw-on-puck-ready*-spindle?
Now playing: ( with a proper spindle )
Bernstein's Mahler 5 with the Vienna Phils on DG. The best.
In regards to the pianist, Marcelle Meyer, I think she is a marvellous pianist. This is my first exposure to her. The selection of music in these 17 CD's is perfect; Chabrier, Ravel, Debussy, Couperin, Bach, Rameau, Scarlatti, Mozart, Schubert, among others, for the most part. What I'd do to hear her, say, anytime after 1960 maybe? The entire set is in Mono and the quality is quite variable. Some is quite nice but a larger portion remains a challenge for me. The problem is directly related to poor recordings in the first place and the difficulties of restoring the 78's etc.
Despite all the shortcomings this set will keep me engaged for some time. With more than half of the discs devoted to Bach, Scarlatti, Debussy, Ravel, I want to get to know her better.
Thy hand, Belinda -
to end the day...

Hi Kuma,
i’m more likely to fall off the edge of the world than go roundie!
It’s only my Okki Nokki spindle…
Which is in my kitchen where it's lit by a couple of full-spectrum fluorescent tubes.
I can take much better photo’s there
How goes it with the Svyatoslav Richter?
Debs
It's a Melodia '74 reissue but it sounds pretty good for '58 recording. Someone apparenlty *restored* it. Not the clearest thing but both the surface noise and background noise is low. I reckon this is a studio recording.
Performance wise, I like it. Fast and spirited. Altho, I've only heard one other piano only version ( Horowitz ) his style seems to be cooler and more structured. Friend told me the one I ought to listen to is the live concert in Prague from '58 in spite higher cough noises from the audience.
Anyways, anything Richter plays has a touch of sadness.
Just discovered Alela and its rather fine so far.
