Fancied a bit of Uriah Heep on Friday Night. In the days when Friday Night was Rock Night. Miss the Tommy Vance Shows.

Good to see another Uriah Heep fan on the forum - thought their last album was not as good as usual though; most of the output has been pretty consistent with a solid album every capable years.

Currently listening to the PT's excursion in to new wave/punk rock form the 80s. At times they sound like the great late Robert Calvert, but then so did 90% of punk bands, which is no bad thing.

This is a stunning album and absolute gem - this was released just after she died back in 1970 - very sad to think what a great talent the world lost - a lot of outstanding singer/songwriters left us, not least of which was the greatest of them all Sandy Denny. I never under understand why entertainers so great as Janis self-destruct. Enjoy Pearl - it is one of greatest records ever made.

A wonderful album with a number of different musical styles. Sometimes funky, sometimes peppered with great guitar riffs.  Great production too. I think I've seen this posted by others on the odd occasion. Worth a listen.

The cover is "A Woman Walking" (1909) by Mikhail Fyodorovich Larionov.

Shostakovich only wrote one Sonata for Cello which is in d-minor (Op. 40).  The Op. 147 Sonata here was actually written for the Viola originally.  The former written by a 28 year old in 1934 and the latter was written in 1975 when Shostakovich was already a 69 year old.  Musically, the style of the two works couldn't be more dissimilar.

Summery reggae pop. Not too sickly sweet though. Hollie has a lovely voice, and as the reviews say, she sounds a lot like Janet Kay.
