droodzilla, there are other recordings too that may be cheaper.  I think Brendel has a 5 CD set through Brilliant Classics which is probably cheap or some newer recordings on Philips.  Often, some artists will include a few Bagatelles or Variations with their Sonata recordings - like Kovacevich.

on CD.  It's a best of but plays like an album and i think it's great.  I bought a copy due to reading it was his first album on the chess label, and as i'm a fan i had to have it.

I picked up a copy last year at a Hi Fi Show 180g Music on Vinyl, excellent pressing & as you say plays like an album.

For those who wonder wether Thielemann is the real deal or have given up on him after listening to some of his Brahms or Beethoven, I strongly recommend this recording - one of the best 5ths on record. The live recording without audience noise or applause is one of the best of its kind, rivaling the clarity and full spectrum of a studio recording.

Cheers,

EJ
