Ariodante is one of Handel's best operas and one of the most recorded. Marc Minkowski made name with his recording starring Anne Sofie von Otter and a vigorous, often driven performance. By contrast, Alan Curtis goes for a low key direction, more supportive of his singers, in some ways less theatrical and in the long run, less wearing / more interesting. In Joyce DiDonato he has probably the best and most charismatic Handel mezzo around today.

Curtis has recorded a comparatively huge number of Handel operas now, in a series that started off quite dull, in all fairness, but became better with every installment.

Cheers,

EJ

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads

Victor Borge, "Live at the {London] Palladium,1972" - priceless, and absolutely no musical taste required!

Only Tom Lehrer reaches this level of musical irreverance in my view! Maybe Dawson or Morecomb and Wise, but not consistently!

Tzar Ivan Ivanovich Fall-of-off! With Miss Mulvey ... Crazy funny ...

Next up is Mendelsohnn's Oktette with members of the Vienna Philharmonic! Okay, this is the rediculous to the sublime in a few seconds! iTunes is great!

Aloe Blacc - Good Things      One of those albums that just hits the spot. Don't know why because it's not the sort of music I listen too. Heard this in my local HMV and just walked around the store listening to it. Glad I got this
