Played this record in the main rig for the first time.

Love Michelangeli on this piece! It's the first time I actually enjoyed the No.1.

When you take a friend of ours record shopping in a couple of weeks time.

Wagner - Der Ring des Nibelungen, Vorabend: Das Rheingold. Recorded in 1967, prior to stage performances in Salzburg. For this remastering, DG have resisted the urge to kill all tape hiss and half the music with it. Instead, the hiss is audible but can get used to - and the voices and orchestra  sound simply brilliant.

Cheers,

EJ

Do you not think the cds are better listening for most classical albums Played on the CD555?

I  just find you can let the whole album flow without having to get up and turn it over.

Same goes for bands like Tangerine Dream on cd.

munch,

If the records are too noisy or in a bad shape, CD, of course is a good thing. ( like historical stuff ). Also more recent CDs can be fabulous, too. ( not available in vinyl )

I don't mind getting up for 33.3 rpm. What I got really tired of was 45s. ( dont' care how good they sound, it ruined the flow )

Another reason for all these classical records? Because they are plentiful and cheap. I'm not a collector so not going for that elusive coveted vinyl.

As you know, not all LPs sound fabulous. The  'Rudy/Lenny Emperor' doesn't sound that great in spite it's in a good condition ( 2 eye Columbia lenny/NY phil blows ) but the whole box set was inexpensive enough to explore Serkin's work.

One of the best live concerts of altime IMO.

Hammersmith Odeon 1978.

Absolutely love his performance but what a horrid sounding record!

An interesting contrast to Cliburn/Reiner record which sounding great but performance fair.

Debs,

if you like the Comedian Harmonists, you might want to give Max Raabe a try. The NY concert is amazing, same music brought back to life in fantastic sound quality. I still have to catch one of their shows.
