Finally completed first listen. Bottom line: best Meistersinger I've heard yet. On paper it shouldn't work: Fischer-Dieskau doesn't obviously have a cobbler in his voice, Domingo's German is only approximate, the chorus isn't top tier. But everybody is in glorious voice (F-D included) and Jochum is brilliantly sensitive and alert and never once lets the attention slip. Sound quality is extraordinary.
