Just finished listening to this 4xLP box-set.

I have a lot of time for, Heinz Holiger who is my favourite oboeist, but here the recording mix has placed too much enthuses on his oboe which comes across a bit too loud and sometimes even shrill.

The harpsichord, beautifully played by, Christiane Jaccottet is very pleasant but too distant to appreciate properly. Likewise, the viola’s are also far too quiet most of the time.

It‘s not a bad sound musically, quite good actually but with these ingredients I expected excellence with the record engineering.

This is no where near as good as the Kuijken brothers version.

Rattle's recording of the Brahms symphonies is mesmerizing, with an absolutely brilliant performance of #1.
