This recording of Adriana Lecouvreur is pure brilliance, and makes it appear as a masterwork. Scotto made quite a few recordings for CBS/Sony and EMI from the mid 70s to the early 80s. Her voice has always been an acquired taste, but by this period,it was showing definite signs of wear, especially on recordings. However, dramatically she was on top of her game (a bit like Callas: to admire Scotto you have to look beyond mere beauty of voice) and it shows in the white hot performance she gives here. Placido Domingo and Sherrill Milnes are unusually committed.

Cheers,

EJ

Superb album, I take it you are seeing him tonight? Lucky you!!!!

Enjoy the show Miles. I saw him a couple of months ago at the 100 Club, he's an outstanding performer. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Great concert tonight, a few new songs, a few he wrote with the Czars and of course at the heart of it 'Queen Of Denmark'.

John was in great form matched by an amazing performance by Midlake.
