I have to agree with Gale and other posters there is something a bit dem old kozmic blues about this and it does sound pretty damn good
Music is life. Great music is the gateway into beauty and joy. The first thing you'll hear on this recording is Helene taking a breath to start and then throughout as well (which is very normal for a musician). For me, a good and welcome sign. Breathing in music is so natural. You can almost feel her move. Why do most recordings cover this up and remove it? I prefer recordings that allow all the natural parts of music making (like you were actually listening to someone in your room) to be heard and enjoyed: breathing, humming, fingers moving on the strings etc.,(all in good taste of course and not amateurishly excessive). Nothing more than a focused person playing an instrument and immersing themselves in the music making process fully.
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (from the booklet notes):
O Man! Watch out!
What does the depth of midnight shout?
'I was asleep-
From depths of dreaming I came out:
The world is deep,
And deeper than day had ever thought.
Deep is its pain-
Joy-even deeper than heart's grief!
Pain says: Pass away!
But joy needs all eternity,
Needs deep, so deep eternity.'
In the beginning stages of learning the Phantasiestücke, Op. 73 and so I'm naturally wondering if I'll ever find all the "Clara motifs' and any other secret codes .
I may have known this but it never dawned on me until recently that the Op. 73 was originally scored for Piano and Clarinet as it is played on this recording. Every other recording I have is for the Piano and Violoncello. It is nice to hear the Clarinet for a change.
Doug,
You must be by now a part owner of the French Alpha label..

Haim, recession proof musical shares - yes, I'm fully invested and the value keeps rising. I'm very pleased with the few Alpha discs that I have so far!

Isn't it a bit late for that set, surely it is best enjoyed in the summer time, mind you the weather is fine so I guess it's all right, all right, all right. Did you know Mighty Man was dedicated to Harold Wilson.

Just abandoned this one on Spotify, who thought it a good idea to put Yoda's poetry to music? Musically good but not into the lyrics.
