Schubert's Fantasie for piano duet is one of his most beautiful compositions, weaving from sadness to despair to hope and back around its principal melody. Schubert made the best possible use of four hands on the piano by weaving a gorgeous melody in the upper octaves underpinned by an elaborate bass line. Lewis and Osborne are exceptional here.

+1 EJ

Fall and the coming of colder weather and winter tends to be the time of year where I am drawn into  Schubert's magic and listen most extensively.  I find the same magic heard in the Fantasie woven throughout Schubert's oeuvre whether that be in the piano music, chamber or lieder etc.   Schubert's music is very special to me.

PS:  As if you didn't know, the cover art is entitled, "The Hapless Golfer."   At this point in the story the golfer on the left is resolving to give lawn bowling a try as just prior to this he lost his temper by throwing his last club out into the ocean to where his last ball ended up.  His partner has refused to help him anymore by doing the same and is philosophizing about reaping what you sow and that tomorrow will be another day...
