What are you listening to? (Vol VII)

Christophe Coin and Christopher Hogwood in a tame, but beautifully played selection of Vivaldi's concerti for cello and orchestra, recorded late 80s. With conductors like Andrea Marcon, Rinaldo Alessandrini and Fabio Biondi and cellists like Pieter Wispelwey and Jean-Guihen Queyras on the scene, who bring much more fire and excitement, this way of playing Vivaldi has started to sound a bit dated IMO.

First spin of disc 1 of Chailly's new set of the Beethoven symphonies. Much too early to say anything about the artistic side - save that this first listen is very enjoyable so far. The (studio) recording is lifelike and natural. Chailly plays these works swiftly but with a big dynamic range, and both definition and volume are captured excellently.

Classy packaging, by the way.
